I described being a survivor of Childhood Sexual Abuse to a friend as feeling like I started the hundred meter dash a quarter of a mile behind the start line at the bottom of a steep hill. It is arduous. It has felt “unfair” and, at times, futile.
Surviving CSA, a trauma that is central to one’s sense of identity, is a massive achievement achieved each day by taking one more step, one more breath and having courage to run that next short race called “today.”
